DT Play Day - Scyofbc

British Columbia’s School Streets Initiative

SCY is excited to partner on the provincial expansion of the National Active School Streets Initiative to implement School Streets in up to 10 communities across BC with funding from the Government of British Columbia. From 2024 to 2028, SCY will be collaborating with Green Communities Canada (GCC) to support participating communities with planning, implementing, and assessing their School Streets interventions.

About the BC School Streets Initiative

School Streets provide children with safer environments that encourage physical activity by creating car-free spaces on streets in front of schools at the start and/or end of the school day. The British Columbia School Streets Initiative (BCSSI) will include interventions that range from a one-week pop-up event to a month-long pilot.

BCSSI is a sub-project of the National Active School Streets Initiative (NASSI), a nationwide expansion of School Streets across six provinces. Participating communities will take part in the national Community of Practice and Training Program, receive direct technical assistance, have access to space activation services, and will be provided funding to support local planning and implementation activities.
